Aki Ra demining Cambodia - A True Hero 11/04/2009
"I poke my stick in the ground till I find a mine. Then I dig around it, to make sure that it is not booby-trapped. Then, I unscrew the detonator. And the mine is safe." Sometimes one persons efforts just need to be seen to be believed. Aki Ra, after being enlisted as a child soldier under the Khmer Rouge and being forced to lay hundreds of landmines, has taken it upon himself to clear those same landmines and more, to make the land safe once again. While there may be plenty of people taking on this noble and dangerous task every day, Aki Ra is the man who does it armed only with a stick, some rudimentary tools, and his bare hands. He is the currently featured 'Badass of the Week', and an all out legend. Help Make Jason Napier Famous 06/23/2009
I hadn't heard this story until I saw the group pop up on my Facebook home page. I searched for the story behind Jason Napier, to see what all the fuss was about before joining the group (and to make sure that the mention of 'chk chk boom girl' was not an indicator of the story content). Send a bed net to Africa 04/20/2008
On the topic of games that matter, the latest feel good gaming experience is the race to deliver bed nets to villagers across the African planes. To commemorate World Malaria Day on the 25th of April (coincidentally on the same day as ANZAC day), you can zoom around on your wee scooter, handing out packaged nets in a race against the stunning African sunset - which ultimately will send a net on your behalf through the UN Foundation. |
